A message from beyond time
In The Annunciation of the One Who Came from the Sky, the Virgin Mary shares a sacred encounter with Superman and a DeLorean. Inspired by Matthias Stomer’s Annunciation, the painting turns the traditional scene into a message arriving from the sky and from another time.
Part of the Crossover: When Pop Culture Meets the Old Masters series, this work explores pop culture as a form of modern mythology. The series places contemporary icons within the visual language of classical painting, creating new connections between religious, historical and cinematic stories.
